Dogs have a way of finding the people who need them, and filling an emptiness we didn’t ever know we had.
Are you that person for Miss Lady?

SDC: Can you tell us about your background and how you ended up at SDC?
Miss Lady: I was a stray on the street. I don’t like to talk about that part of my life. I am just happy that I arrived to SDC with my 8 newborn pups. Most of my pups have found their homes but I still haven’t. I’ve been told it is my time to find a forever home where I can have my own family. That sounds wonderful.
SDC: Sounds like you really did hit the jackpot! So, tell us, what are you looking for in your forever home? Describe your perfect family.
Miss Lady: I’m good with kids and adults. I like other dogs. If I am the only one, that would be great too. I love being around my people. Cats… I am not sure about cats. I’m not even sure I know what they are. I don’t think they would be good for me to be around. I’ve been told I should be in a home with NO cats.
SDC what’s your favorite thing to do? I enjoy relaxing in the yard with a chew bone. I love being near my people and enjoy the simple pleasures in life. Like not having to worry about my pups and where our next meal is coming from. I love playing with other dogs and I love belly scratches and snuggles. I even enjoy baths and well I love treats, who doesn’t.
SDC: How would you describe yourself?
Miss Lady: I think I am laid back and gentle. At least that is what I’ve been told by my foster family that I am a sweet and gentle soul. I really enjoy being center of attention now that I don’t have to worry about my puppies.
SDC: Are you afraid of anything?
Miss Lady: I am a very happy girl but boy oh boy, I don’t like thunderstorms. My foster mom makes me wear a “thunder” shirt and that helps.
SDC What would make you stand out in a crowd of pups?
Miss Lady: I look like a German Shepherd. So, if I was with other dogs I bet you my ears would stand up and make me stand out.
SDC: Do you know how old are you?
Miss Lady: The vet told my foster mom that I am about 5-6 years old. So that is my best guess. I really don’t know but I’m not a puppy and I’m not an old lady either.
SDC: do you have any favorite foods or treats?
Miss Lady: My favorite treat is my chew bones. They are so relaxing to eat in the yard. All my worries just go away.
SDC: Where’s your favorite place to sleep at night or nap during the day?
Miss Lady: As of right now I was spayed so that I can’t have anymore puppies. I think 8 is enough. So, I sleep in a big playpen in the living room on my doggie bed with my surgery PJ’s. I am also crate trained and will sleep in my crate.
SDC: What commands or skills do you know?
Miss Lady: My foster mom and family are trying to fine tune my leash skills and my house breaking. I guess because I am not use to being on a leash to walk since I was just running free. I didn’t know what house breaking meant. I suppose being outside running free allowed me to go to the bathroom wherever I wanted. I’ve been told that I am doing better with both. UPDATE: My foster mom said I was doing great with leash training because I love to be outdoors.
We are also working on sit, stay, down and come commands. Treats help!
SDC: Is there anything else you would like to tell your potential new family?
Miss Lady: I will be going through Heartworm treatment soon. I am a little afraid to go through it. I heard the vet and my foster mom talking about how hard treatment can be on dogs. My foster mom reminded me that I have been through so much. I am a German Shepherd. I will do just fine. I now know that monthly Heartworm preventative is so important. I wish my former owner had taken measures to keep me healthy. I try not to dwell on the past. It’s crucial to protect your dogs. Make sure to safeguard those cat things, and the puppies, too. All it takes is one mosquito bite!
SDC is thrilled to express gratitude for your interest in meeting our September Pup of the Month, MISS LADY
