May is National Pet Month, so for this very special month we wanted to re-introduce one amazing girl that would make a perfect family pet for just about anyone! So without further ado, SDC is proud to present…
Miss Molly Friya! The little beauty with the giant heart!
When Molly found out she’d been chosen as SDC’s May Pup of the Month, she could barely contain her excitement and we were happy to head on out to meet her!

SDC: Good Morning! It’s great to meet you. So let’s get right to it… Tell us a bit about your background and how you ended up at SDC.
Molly Friya: Hi! I’m Molly! Nice to meet you too! So, a few moons ago, like last summer or something, I was born along with 8 other little pups just like me! Most of us were adopted, including yours truly, but sometimes things don’t work out, so I’m back! And I’m ready to find my fur-real furever family this time around!
SDC: Well, we know that the 2nd time will be the charm for such a pretty girl! Tell us what you’re looking for in your furever home. Describe your perfect family.
Molly Friya: I want to be part of a family that loves dogs, and that knows puppies will be puppies! Ha! I am only 10 months old, after all, so I’m definitely still a puppy. Right now I’m living with an amazing foster family. They have two kids. I think I heard someone say they were 6 or 12, or one is 6 and one is 12? Heck, I don’t know. All I know is that they are super fun to play with! So a family with some little people to play with would be GREAT! My foster family has a dog for me to play with too! He’s older than me, and he’s BIG! I was kinda scared of him at first, because, you know…BIG and other dogs are kinda scary anyway. But he was super nice to me, and really patient, so now I LOVE HIM! I play with them every day, my foster kiddos and my foster fur-bro! When the kiddos get home from school, whatever that is ??, I get SOOO excited and jump right up to say “HI!!”. They love when I give them doggie kisses! And they let me know how much with THE! BEST! BELLY RUBS in the whole world! My foster fur-bro is so much fun! I’m pretty fast and he plays chase with me, which is awesome! He’s showing me how great being part of pack is! And then there’s my most amazing foster mom! I love just hanging out with her during the day when the house is quiet and the kiddos are away at that school thing. She does this stuff she calls “work” at home during the day, and I really love that I have someone to hang out with all day long. But I also kinda like some alone time in my crate, so if you have to leave to do that work stuff, I’m okay with that too. Just know that when you get back home I’m totally smothering you with puppy kisses and will be ready to head out on any adventures you can think of… a walk, some yard play time, dinner, whatevs! I’ll be ready. We can sometimes just hang out on the couch, I would love to hear all about your day! So I guess you could say that my “perfect” forever home is just about anywhere that there’s fun to be had plus some lounging time! But some kiddos, or a dog, or someone to hang out with most of the time…I wouldn’t complain if a family that has all that stuff comes a callin’! *wink*

SDC: Well, you sound like a very well rounded and fun girl! Tell us what is your favorite thing is. What activities and toys do you love the most?
Molly Friya: Oh gosh, so many things! I love to go on walks, playing with my foster fur-bro, any toy that squeaks! Oh, oh… those soft plushy ones, man, those are the best! NO, wait!! TENNIS BALLS!!! Yup! Tennis balls, those are my favorite!
SDC: Hard to decide with so many fun things to choose from! We understand, haha. Now, tell us a little bit about what makes you you. How would you describe yourself?
Molly Friya: Well, everyone says I’m really cute, pretty, and soft. And I can’t disagree with any of that! But it’s not just about looks, I have a fun personality too! I am very sweet and I love to give everyone kisses. I love to play with everyone in the house. I love meeting new people and everyone I meet is my new bestest friend. I really like doggie friends too, but when I meet a new dog I have to admit that I get a little scared. Most of the time I will bark and growl at first. What can I say? Just give me a couple minutes and let me smell them out! I warm up fast and can be their new best friend too! My foster family is helping me work on that stuff! And my foster fur-bro assures me that I’m don’t need to be scared of dogs one little bit! He has been the best foster fur-bro a little girl could ask for, and he’s so patient! He gave me all the time I needed when I first met him, and now just look at us!

SDC: We could already tell you were the most amazing girl! Now let everyone know that one thing that makes you stand out in a crowd!
Molly Friya: Well, that’s an easy one! My fluffy floppy ears, of course. Just look at them! My mama is a German Shepherd Dog but I think I have my dad’s ears. They give me my unique look! There’s no other pup out there with THESE EARS! But I have to say there are TWO things that make me stand out! Have you seen my smile? My smile is pretty awesome if I do say so myself! Oh wait, the 3rd thing is I love to play dress up! I was thinking about dressing up like Sky from Paw Patrol for Halloween. Not sure yet, though. It’s a long time until Halloween. My closet’s going to be way fuller by then! Oh, oh, oh…and my favorite color is pink!
SDC: Hahaha! We can definitely see that you are a professional show stopper! And that name… We love your name. Do you know how you got the name?
Molly Friya: I’m not sure. I was just a tiny thing when SDC named me Molly. Friya came from the family that adopted me, and since I really liked that name I asked if I could keep it when I came back to SDC. It’s unique, just like me!
SDC: Pretty name for a pretty girl! And very unique. Do you have a nickname?
Molly Friya: Nope not yet! But who needs one with a name like Molly Friya! The best name EVER!

SDC: You’re right about that! And we can see that with that unique name comes a young, vibrant girl! Exactly how old are you?
Molly Friya: I’m 10 months old. Still a puppy!
SDC: So do you have a favorite food or treat?
Molly Friya: Ummm… I like to steal my foster fur-bro’s food (don’t tell him!). Haha. It’s pretty tasty! It’s for big dogs though, and my foster mom says I gotta stick to the puppy food because I’m still growing. But man, I can’t wait until I can eat the big dog food! As for treats? That’s easy! I love to chew on bully sticks. My foster mom says she gets them from this place called Costco? I don’t know what that is, but they are soooo yummy! And my foster mom gives me tiny little treats. I think they are called “good girl” because she says that every time she gives me one of those. I love those, perfect for an actual good girl like me!

SDC: Do you like other dogs, cats, both?
Molly Friya: I really like dogs, like A LOT! BUT… I do need to warm up a little first. Like I said before, they sometimes seem a little scary! My foster fur-bro is helping me learn that they’re not scary at all, and they need a warm up too! What does he tell me? Slow intro to make it go! I might bark a little bit, and maybe growl a little bit. But that’s just me saying, “Take is slow, bro!” I’m super grateful for the all the humans and dogs that I’ve met that listen and let me take it slow! I’ve made so many friends because of them! Just a tiny bit of patients… Let me get that barky growl out, get a little gentle intro, then the smells in, and then we are off! Playing and having so much fun! I just hope my forever family understand that my bark is just my way to ask them to take things slow so I don’t get scared! As for cats? I really don’t know. My foster family doesn’t have any cats so I haven’t met any. I’d be willing to meet one to see, but I make no guarantees! Can we talk about squirrels, though? I love to chase them! I’m not sure they like chase as much as me, they just run around and up the tree.
SDC: I must admit, I like slow intro’s too, so I totally get it! I know we touched on this a little before, but tell us again how you feel about little ones. Do you like kids? Or are big people more your style?
Molly Friya: I LOVE kids. They are so much fun! I like big people too. I just love people in general! All the people I’ve met have been so cool and they give me the best hugs, pets, and belly rubs. And the treats! Holy goodness the treats. I mean, who doesn’t love treats? My foster family is always telling me what a good girl I am and I really like when people tell me I’m a good girl. Plus, almost every time they tell me I’m a good girl I get one of those tiny “good girl” treats! Wait a minute… haha! For reals though, it makes me feel special every time. No matter what those treats are called!

SDC: Is there anything that makes you scared?
Molly Friya: Yeah… It’s always the meeting new dogs that’s scary for me. But I just need to warm up and get those sniffs in! Maybe 5-10 mins of walking and sniffing? And then we are off to playing and having a ball! My foster mom says I’m doing great learning how to meet new pups! She always takes her time and reminds me what a good girl I am and that makes me feel safe and ready to face those fears! She loves to save the proof that I don’t need to be scared too! She has a ton of pictures and even some videos of me playing really nice with my foster fur-bro. She even shows me some videos of me playing with a new friend I made at the park to remind me that I can do anything with a little patience!

SDC: That’s amazing! Just a couple more questions and we’ll let you get back to playing…
Tell us, are you a bossy girl or a laid-back lady?
Molly Friya: I’m definitely a laid back lady! I love to play, but I’m down for chillin’ on the sofa too! I don’t think I could be bossy if I wanted to. And I’m not gonna find out! Have you seen my foster brother? He’s 100 lbs! Haha.
SDC: I can understand that! Now tell us, where’s your favorite place to sleep at night or nap during the day?
Molly Friya: I love a nice dog bed! But I also love my foster family’s beds. Then there’s a nice spot under my foster mom’s desk. I ain’t gonna lie… I just like naps and I’ll nap just about anywhere! At night, though? I like to sleep in my crate. It’s my own little room and I can sleep all night without anything waking me up! And that’s just another thing that gets me “good girls”, and you know I love those!

SDC: You seem like a very smart girl who knows what she likes! So tell us, what commands or skills do you know?
Molly Friya: I know a perfect “sit”! I also know “go to the kennel” means I get to hang out in my crate. Plus I’m also learning “shake”. It’s super fun to learn new things, so I hope my new family will keep teaching me new things all the time! Plus learning new stuff means I get treats! I need to ask my foster mom and kiddos to make me a sign… “Will Work For Treats”!
SDC: Haha! With that sign you’d surely get plenty of work! So last, but definitely not least… do you know what breeds of awesome dog you are?
Molly Friya: I know that my mama is a German Shepherd Dog. But I’m not sure about my dad. But my mama once told me that he was very handsome. And she has to be right about that because… Just look at me! I am certain that I got my pretty long fur and these amazing ears from my handsome dad!
