SDC is happy to present our February Pup of the Month!
This sweet girl was so excited to find out she’d been chosen for February because she knows that this month is “National Black Dog (and cat) Syndrome Awareness Month”! When she found out she was picked she said, “WOW! I I’m ready to let the world know just how awesome black dogs (and cats) really are. Bring on the questions!”.
So here she is, the wonderful, awesome, loving, best puppy dog kisser around…
Miss Luna Harlow!
SDC: Can you tell us a bit about your background and how you ended up at SDC?
LUNA H: Most of my background is with SDC, actually. My mom didn’t have a great life, though. She lived mostly chained up in someone’s back yard. When she had me and my sisters some nice people asked the owner of the yard if they would be willing to give us to them so they could find homes for us and, thankfully, they agreed. They even let the nice people take my mom! Which was great for me and my sisters. My sisters and mom have all been adopted. And now it’s my turn!
SDC: What are you looking for in your forever home? Describe your perfect family.
LUNA H: Well, I’m kind of scared of lots of stuff. My foster pawrents have been GREAT helping me through my fears but a lot of things are still just super scary for me. My perfect family will be patient and let me open up to them in my own time. It takes a minute for me to really trust you, but with a little time I’ll be your best Netflix binging partner before you know it! I’m looking for a forever family that loves kisses and hugs, because once I trust you, I’m all about the love and snuggles! Oh, and I would love to have a four legged friend in the house since I love to play with them. And if that 4-legged friend is a kitty cat? OH MY GOODNESS, well that would just be heaven!
SDC: What is your favorite thing? (Activity, toy, treat, what things does he love the most?)
LUNA H: I love any kind of chew toy! Bones, bully sticks, whatever, I love to chew on all of them. I love to play with my furry foster brothers and sisters, especially my feline foster bro! I LOVE hugs and kisses and going for walks. Plus ANY kind of treats, I am not picky! But most of all, I love, love, LOVE my foster cat bro! His name is Santiago and he IS THE BEST!
SDC: How would you describe yourself?
LUNA H: My foster parents say that I am the sweetest girl around! I’m super playful and I love to get all the attention from all the people. I’m also pretty smart, if I do say so myself! My foster mom tells me I’m a good girl all the time because anytime she asks me to do something, I am happy to oblige! Just don’t forget that I am pretty shy, especially around new people, so I might run and hide at first. But once I know I am safe, well… I’ll just repeat what my foster mom and dad always say. I am AWESOME!!
SDC: Tell us some unique things about yourself. What would make you stand out in a crowd of pups?
LUNA H: Well… I am the supreme cat lover! My feline foster bro is literally the most fun thing around! I hear that some doggies don’t like cats, but I just don’t get it. What’s not to like? I invite my kitty bro into my room to hang out all the time. Also my foster mom says I am the best snuggle buddy and that I’m a super sweet and happy girl. AND I get along very well with my canine foster brothers and sisters too! Also, my polka dot feet! Like little polka dot socks. They are pretty unique, I think.
SDC: Do you have a nickname?
LUNA H: My foster mom calls me “Sweet girl”. I just love when she calls me that.
SDC: Do you know how old you are?
LUNA H: YES! I am just about 1 years old. We were saved in April of 2024, not too long we were born, so yep!
SDC: Do you have a favorite treat or dinner banquet?
LUNA H: Oh, wow. Do I have to just pick one? I love all the treats. And a banquet? Goodness, bring it on! Anything you got, I will love it all.
SDC: Do you like other dogs, cats, both?
LUNA H: Both! I love dogs, but cats? Cats…I LOVE CATS! I really hope my furever family has a cat, or two or three….
SDC: Is there anything that makes you scared?
LUNA H: As much as I wish I could say no, I can’t. It’s really the “unknown” things that scare me. I am mostly scared of new people. I’m very shy and I will sometimes run and hide from new people. But if they are nice and patient and give me time to figure out that I can trust them, well then they will find out that I am the absolute BEST at giving puppy dog kisses. And no one can snuggle like me!
SDC: Where’s your favorite place to sleep at night or nap during the day?
LUNA H: The best place ever is my crate! I love my crate and blankie the most. I will put myself to bed and I love to take my naps there in there with my kitty foster bro!
SDC: What commands or skills do you know?
LUNA H: I am pretty smart, you know! I know outside, stop, give me a kiss, come over (in both English AND Spanish) so you can add that to my resume. And feel free to teach me more amazing things. I love to learn, and I love being bi-lingual!
SDC: Do you know what breed(s) of awesome dog you are?
LUNA H: Well, you can’t tell by looking at me with the white chest and polka dot feet, but I know for certain that I am an amazing German Shepherd Dog mix! My mom was a GSD, you know, so I absolutely have her DNA! So GSD mixed with awesomeness and sweetness, that’s ME!
